New Petco ready to be Unleashed on Aug. 31

The signs are up in the retail space at 31-33 Second Ave., aka The Luxe East, where an Unleashed (by Petco) outlet has been in the works.

Signs on the door now point to an Aug. 31 opening here between East Second Street and East First Street...

What is Unleashed?

As pet stores go, we’re anything but ordinary. Unleashed by Petco hit the pet scene in 2009, with our first store in San Diego’s Hillcrest neighborhood. Our concept is simple – provide the same knowledge and know-how offered by Petco in a unique, smaller package.

This location will also include dog training…

Developer Ben Shaoul bought this property for $5.6 million in 2011. He then added three floors to the existing building … and unloaded it for $29 million.

Appropriate replacement name for the former Urge bar location and right next to The Cock.

Who writes this stuff? "As pet stores go, we’re anything but ordinary" yet "provide the same knowledge and know-how offered by Petco in a unique, smaller package." So... being in a smaller storefront makes them less ordinary despite offering the same yada yada?

As a resident of the EV, I like that a place such as this, is more accessible to the neighborhood. As a cat owner, I am sure I will find things I need. The only problem is the building and signage. It appears like something one would see in the suburbs. NYC is resembling the latter in an expedient way. All of the privately owned businesses are becoming obsolete. If landlords weren't so fucking greedy, NYC could still retain some of its charm, a charm during a long period of time that couldn't never be replicated anywhere else in this country. That is what made NYC distinctive. That is one the reasons I fled the west and moved here 15 years ago. I wanted to live in a place that felt like Europe, that personified differences, contrasts, and illustrated how complex and diverse this city is apart from the rest. Now, many parts of NYC feel like they could be anywhere, especially with the barrage of commercial enterprises taking over leases and transforming neighborhoods into suburban shopping malls. However, I do wish this space the best and hope it is a success for everyone.

Interesting that their marketing approach is based on how ashamed they are to be a large corporation.

Unleashed Spa has been operating at 218 ave B for 7 years. A local family run business with the exact same service. It is a shame that our local politicians are not doing more to protect the Mom and Pop stores !!

That's right, 11:27AM. Everywhere is now anywhere. And where is anywhere but nowhere, and where is nowhere but utopia? Isn't it wonderful? Mass living for mass people.
