Over at Flaming Pablum, Alex brings news that Norman's Sound & Vision on Cooper Square is leaving for Williamsburg in August.
Ugh. I enjoy rooting through the piles of CDs and what not at Norman's. Always found some kind of bargain.
As I've written ... as much as I hate to see record stores close, we are fortunate to have several good choices left in the neighborhood, such as...Kim's ... Good Records NYC ... Turntable Lab ... A-1 Records ... Other Music ... Academy Records ... Gimme Gimme ... Big City Records ... Rainbow Music...

A reader tells us that the Norman's has already opened in Brooklyn at 555 Metropolitan Ave. Sure enough, here's a photo from the Norman's Facebook page...

Glad to see they're still in business, but hate to see another record store closing in the city.

I believe Sounds is still open Thursdays-Sundays.
Brooklyn gets everything.

A shame, but at least they are staying in business. I am surprised that Norman has not been able to capitalize on the rise in vinyl sales more, but perhaps rent increased faster than vinyl sales could compensate.

Norman also did his part in supporting music because he runs a small indie label for underground artists, Ion....very cool music of Bill Laswell, Buckethead, etc...
Never liked A-1, rude attitude from the staff turned me off, acted like they were doing me a favor to be there, so I took my business elsewhere. Norman's was good for digging, but also check out the very friendly and well-curated Good Records. The 6th street stretch is a treasure trove of vinyl, with Good Records, Gimme Gimme Records, and Tropicalia in Furs all within a block of each other....
Kim's also has a great vinyl selection, if you can deal with the tripped-out staff and the security watching you like you're a criminal.
Finally, Other Music has excellent alternative new vinyl releases....
