I bought a half dozen N95 masks at Basics Plus a few weeks ago for $10 each as well. Maybe its the particular brand I got but they're really hard to breathe in. It doesn't let germs in, or your breath out, so I find my mouth & nose got sweaty within a few minutes.
Current market rates are around $7 for hospitals
@5:25 donate them to any hospital where they are really needed!.The general public doesn't need to be using them
The idea that the general public does not need to wear masks during a pandemic is nonsense and goes against all the data from the SARS pandemic in China. Masks (especially N95 but also simple surgical masks to some extent) not only give the user some protection from inhaling infected droplets, they also stop the user from spreading disease if they have it, and that is actually the main reason why the CDC's "don't wear a mask, they don't work...unless you're a healthcare worker" recommendation will only prolong the coronavirus crisis. This is what the head of China's CDC just told Science magazine:"Q: What mistakes are other countries making?A: The big mistake in the U.S. and Europe, in my opinion, is that people aren’t wearing masks. This virus is transmitted by droplets and close contact. Droplets play a very important role—you’ve got to wear a mask, because when you speak, there are always droplets coming out of your mouth. Many people have asymptomatic or presymptomatic infections. If they are wearing face masks, it can prevent droplets that carry the virus from escaping and infecting others."Masks help make social distancing even more effective, and help flatten the curve even faster. They also remind the user and others to be more careful about touching their face during an outbreak. The CDC is about to change their recommendation and say they the public should wear masks, even simple ones, which was only put into place due to a shortage of masks for healthcare workers. So go make a mask if you don't have one and help save a life.
The general public can stay home or social distance, meaning they can wear a scarf around their face as a mask and still be ok. Healthcare workers CANNOT stay 6 feet away and are in close proximity to COVID patients and exposed coworkers at all times. This is why the N95 masks are so important for them.
