Updated 11/4: Last night's install was canceled last-minute due to a glitch at another Key store! They will try again this coming Monday at 11 p.m., per Stacie Joy.
The latest update will cause the 24/7 grocery at Fourth Street to close overnight — specifically from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Sources tell EVG Key contributor Stacie Joy that the grocer will be updating its self-serve stations and point-of-sale systems — perhaps to update its software for the Customer Loyalty Cards (the ones with "The Difference is Key" printed on them).
Sources also say that it is possible the staff will do some reorganization overnight, but it's also possible that they will not.
See you at 7 a.m. tomorrow!

key food is a great supermarket, prices beat even trader joe's
?
Key Food has better prices ?
On what planet ?
One example...
Lettuce in a clamshell ( Gotham Greens )
KF $ 6.49
Union Market $ 4.49
Whole Foods $ 3.99
etc etc etc
KF does not know the definition of customer service ( like TJ )
There's now a section dedicated to cold brew next to the butter. Woo hoo!
I hope they improve the self-scanners. I'm sure the staff is tired of dealing with those of us who shout at the screen when it refuses to acknowledge that I've ALREADY PUT MY ITEM IN THE BAGGING AREA.
If Key Food employees DO NOT CARE, no amount of substantial upgrading of Key Food will make a difference! Employees treat customers with RUDENESS and DISRESPECT!!! There are other supermarkets nearby to shop at that value their customers.
Wegmans at Astor Place can't come soon enough!
My husband and I are camping out overnight to be the first in line. NO CUTTING!!!
Best super store in world new york is key food. Many blessing to key food workers and how they have to deal with not good peopls.
Gotta love when people come to the comments section to slam people who work at grocery stores. Have you ever tried working for minimum wage at a grocery store in the east village? What do you imagine that might be like? If employees “don't value customers,” chances are their employer isn’t valuing them. Let’s try some critical thinking folks!
I never have problems with the staff but the tone of the self-serve stations sounds like yelling to me: Put your item in the bagging area!
Hoping the revamp changes its tone, literally :)
I agree. Oatmilk is cheaper at Union Market and Shop Fair on C is cheaper all-round and of course TJs.
To those who are bitching about KF, why not just go elsewhere? You two are probably the only ones who are happy Associated is out of stuytown. Better yet why not just order online? And stay home.
I love Key Food and will always shop there.
I've been a resident of our hood for over eleven years. And I've patronized this Key Food perhaps three or four times for just a couple of items. The reason being is the disorganization, exorbitant prices, lack of selection, and surly staff who clearly resent their jobs. I refuse to shop there because of the bad energy and layout. It feels incredibly outdated. Trader Joes, Whole Foods and Union Market are much better. Just my two cents.
FYI key food is a union shop https://www.ufcw1500.org/media-center/photos/members-at-work/members-at-work-key-food?disablemobile

YOU ARE SPOT ON! I also refuse to shop at Key Food for the same reasons you mentioned in your comment. Union Market, Whole Foods and Westside Market at 3rd Avenue and 11th Street are SO MUCH BETTER. They appreciate their customers!
I've been shopping at Key Foods on Ave A for 30 years and I'm not understanding the vitriol being hurled at the workers on this thread. I can't remember ever having a bad experience with their employees, in fact I find them rather friendly and polite. Perhaps it's the bad vibes YOU'RE putting out?
On the contrary, the floor workers at Whole Foods act like the customers are invisible. They park massive trolleys in front of heavily trafficked shopping areas, like the produce section, and if you say "excuse me" and try to reach around them, they completely ignore you and refuse to move out of your way, even for a second. Their passive-aggressive energy is palpable.
