Marshal seizes Cafe Amore on East 14th Street

Per the paperwork on the front door, the Marshal has seized Cafe Amore, which seems to be advertising for a new cashier every other week ... the paperwork is dated from Friday... and we have a feeling that we haven't seen the last of this Union Square pizzeria ....

I thought it was strange that they were closed. I walk by it everyday at 8 am (never been in) and it's never dark or closed.

This may be the first and last time I see anything ever written about this convenient but overpriced scam of a college pizza joint so let me get these iconic memories in before this place is lost to history (or worse, carries on its mundane existence):

-One post-Irving Plaza concert night (way back when that place was hip), an older gentlemen wearing a fireman's fire coat, a ski mask, giant winter shades, scores of gold chains around his neck, AND TWO HOCKEY STICKS ATTACHED TO THE BACK LIKE HE WAS CASEY JONES FROM NINJA TURTLES, walks and orders THREE SLICES OR ELSE...
The cashier was not scared at all...must be used to this character...on the other hand...

Picture It. October 2004. Days until that intense, emotional Presidential Election. I walk in on a screaming match between the pizza maker himself and the NYU student. The student was raising a stink about prices. He calls her a "stupid Fing C" - yeah that's right he called her THAT word. To which she says in the most calibrated Malibu accent I've ever heard - "Don't blame me, blame THE MAHN, MAHN!" and storms out. I think she had a skateboard.

He again called her THAT name and then looked at me and went on a "you believe these spoiled brats today?" Then he blamed her for 9/11. Then he said "and of course Kerry is going to win because that is the kind of F'd up country we live in."....

....Indeed.

Good stuff, Anon 9:11.
I am still lamenting my perhaps-once-a-year meal in Tad's Steak House at that location.

Tads steakhouse was next door, not there

Anon 6:18, I will take your word for it and stand corrected. Although I would have sworn. . . .

I always remembered this space as housing Tad's Steaks, too.
