This was the latest in a string of pizza joints to inhabit the space. They have all closed because they have all had lousy pizza. If someone served good slices from this space, they'd have plenty of business.
I just don't think a pizza place will ever make it in this spot with Muzzarella so close. Muzzarella is just that good, plus they are all so darn nice in there.
Open a juice bar there instead please! Nothing fancy, just something to replace Jubb's. I promise I'll visit every day!
I quite liked the place that was in there for several years (definitely before Va Bene...was it Sal's or Ray's? I already forgot) but closed a few years back. I certainly thought that was better than Muzzarella, which to me is nothing special. The subsequent places have not been as good. This most recent place not only wasn't as good but tried charging $3 for a slice, so I never went back.

"Devoted fans?" I rarely saw anyone in there when I went by, and the one time I had a slice I was totally underwhelmed.
The pizza was alright. The surly service and Muzzarella a block away were the real problems.
This place has been known as
1. Ray's (not that Ray's)
2. Sal's
3. Va Bene
4. Apizza
and a few others I think during my tenure on Ave A.
Just can't seem to make a pizza place work here.

When is Pete's-A-Place coming back? Best pizza evah.
Good question about Pete's — I haven't heard a thing. Anyone else?
This place sold plain cheese pies for $32, shocking, just shocking that not enough people would pay that much for a pizza.
