Several readers have passed along word (and photos) that workers are removing limbs from the great Elm just off Avenue B on at the East Ninth Street entrance of the Park...
No word just yet on why the limbs are coming down... or how much more of the tree will need to be removed...

What is with all the recent TSP tree destruction? It's hard to find a shady bench in the park these days.
My boyfriend and I were walking through TSP about 3 weeks ago around 9:30 pm and all of a sudden we heard this crunching and looked DIRECTLY in front of us and watched a GIANT limb fall off this tree right where we would have been walking had we not stopped.
My guess is that the tree needed pruning and so they're doing just that.
I talked to one of the workers who said the whole tree is coming down. The inside of the tree is hollow and it's a danger so it must be cut down.

The beauty of these old hardwoods in the park will not be forever 130 to 140 years old trees in urban park setting is about it, The park last saw it's major renovation in 1993 much has changed in the EV especially demographic population the Northern part needs a major rethink and landscaping turning more of it green and removing the asphalt jungle a private conservatory is needed as funds. Much of the good repair the park is in can be credited to Debbie who works tirelessly with what little resources she has.
