After its usual summer hiatus, Streecha Ukrainian Kitchen, 33 E. Seventh St. between Second Avenue and Cooper Square, has reopened (as of last weekend).
And the basement cafe, a fundraising arm of the St George Ukrainian Catholic Church just up East Seventh Street, has expanded its hours ... to include Wednesday and Thursday...
The offerings, including pierogies (or varenyky) remain as inexpensive as ever...

Food is somehow even better and there are new meal specials every day!
Place has gone downhill. Stuffed cabbages and pierogie are smaller since the hiatus and just isnt run nearly as well. There is someone new running the place and it doesnt have the charm. The added a few items and it doenst suit the place. The pierogies and stuffed cabbage used to be huge and dripping in butter and onions. Very rustic, but that was the charm. Now it looks like they are trying to be more like a restaurant and cutting corners.
