For the first time in more than 50 years, 16 St. Mark's Place won't be housing a barber shop.
Public records show that Beard Papa's — a 2000s-era chain that sells cream puffs — will be the new tenant. (H/T Upper West Sider!)
The company got its start in Japan in 1999, and now has 400 locations in 15 countries... and there are already several outposts in NYC.
St. Marks Barbershop moved away from 16 St. Mark's Place to a new spot around the corner in early October.

Really? Cream puffs?
If St Marks can offer a marshmallow store, why not cream puffs?
I wondered what happened to them after they closed on Lower B'way...Welcome back!
There used to be a Beard Papa on Broadway near Astor that closed like 13 yrs ago? Don't squish on the cream puff, they make a damn good one.
First the arrival of Popeyes and now Beard Papas Cream Puffs. I am over the moon. Good news for a change :)
I didn't even know Beard Papa still operated in the U.S. 'Tis a tasty cream puff, especially the green tea version. I used to go to the one near Astor Place whenever I was over there.
YESSSSS
Yay! I miss the location that used to be down the street on Broadway across from the now closed Gap
There's one on 53rd between 2nd and 3rd for a couple of years now.
There's been a Flushing location for more than ten years (it's changed location over the years). It will bring the pleasing aroma of baking cream puffs to the street.
Beard Papa is amazing so this is a win
And in flushing
I'd hadn't realized the old barber shop had moved. I've been getting my hair cut there off and on for thirty years. One day, back in the '90s when I lived across the street, I discovered an old shop ledger, dating from the early '60s, had been thrown out on the curb awaiting the trash-man. I turned quickly to November 22, 1963 and learned that it had been a slow business day!
Cream puffs, just symbolizes what the EV has turned into. Started with cupcake (or was it froyo) mania.
