Masked garbage bandit spotted on 12th Street (OK, it's just a raccoon)

Caught in the act last night around 9 on 12th Street between Avenue A and Avenue B...

Cute critter!

12th Street...I wonder where it came from? Tompkins is not home to raccoons, so I wonder if this guy hoofed it all the way down from Central Park somehow. Maybe it stowed away on a garbage truck?

I think raccoons sometines live or travel through the storm drain system.

It's so nice to know we have a raccoon now in the neighborhood. Poor thing must be lonely and scared in the midst of all this concrete and so little green space.

On 14th between B and C and we have a raccoon in our backyard, unfortunately. Also a very aggressive and hostile squirrel.

Not the first time for a raccoon in the East Village.
Woke up one morning to find my apartment a wreck. Thought I had been robbed but nothing was missing. Then thought a mouse got in the apartment and the cats chased it. WRONG. The next night I heard my daughter screaming from her room! There was a raccoon climbing in her window!
Note to self: Never leave a window even slightly open without a screen.
P.S. - Told the super who called the exterminator. Trap was set, raccoon was captured and released somewhere (safe I hope).

It's Raccacoonie. He escaped.

Raccoons I can live with.
It's the "other masked" morons I can do without.

Do raccoons eat rats?

The destruction of the East River Park has caused a lot of animals to move westward

Apparently, the Raccoon noticed the commotion caused by the Squirl. These critters like to work in tandem. I Agree with the statement that animals previously residing in East River Park have relocated.

Raccoons travel through time

They are omnivores, not exactly what they normally eat but if nothing else is on the menu they will eat rodents.

Another refuge from the East River Park, thank you Carlina Rivera for destroying the habitat of countless wild animals.

Much rather have them then rats any day

I agree with you BUT, if you see one it’s best to steer clear! They aren’t aggressive but if the feel cornered they can get nasty!!

The ASPCA should be contacted if the raccoon is often there (their animal control department will know what to do). This poor animal should not be wandering through the streets.
