Parks Department apparently doesn't care if you fall on your ass on the way to the Tompkins Square Park dog run

Where the term "sheet of ice" is acceptable to use. I've heard some people grumble about this... things like, "Would it kill them to throw down a little salt over here..."

I saw some women spreading salt out yesterday, they were tilting a big garbage can on its side and putting little piles of salt on the ice by the eighth st. ave b exit. They didn't have on uniforms or anything and I overheard them saying "let people step in it and it'll get spread around" Seemed rather disorganized.

Thanks, Rita. I'm just worried that someone will fall and break something...

When the first part of the snow fall fell--they cleaned it all up-then the second wave hit and it piled up and froze over--usually the park does a very good job..

It is much better now--they have removed a great deal of the ice and snow

Good to hear, Melanie. Thanks!

i gotta admit - i'd rather me and my dog take it slowly and carefully on the ice than limp and whine because of the industrial strength brown salt usually scattered in and around the park. that stuff is toxic and it burns my pooch :(
