On East 9th Street, Tacos Morelos taking over Empanadas Bar space

The Empanadas Bar that took over the former Itzocan Café space on East Ninth Street has closed ...

...and the sign on the door notes that the Queens-based Tacos Morelos, which serves delicious food from the cart on Second Street and Avenue A, will be moving in soon...

No word on if this means the end of the cart on Second and A... (hopefully not...)

Thanks to East Ninth Street neighbor Michael Sullivan of WINESHOP for the tip...

Yalza! Love the cart. Love the new location. Less Piggy, more Morelos for the waist line.

Need cart ... need cart ...

Also need the El Idolo truck(s) which made a brief appearance last summer on 4th St @ 2nd and St. Marks near the Bow'ry, since they have things, like tripe, that Morelos doesn't.

Need ... need ...

This is how it starts. The cart moves inside, the store becomes two, then three, and eventually an evil franchise that must be stamped out -- a symbol of "corporatocracy". Meanwhile, somewhere else, the process begins again, and is cheered.

Exactly, shmnyc!!! If we had a zoning law that restricts chain stores, then NYer's could go to small, cool places without turning them into huge global human smuggling rings.

Ah, but even the small stores abuse labor. All commerce must be stamped out! Let's get rid of capitalism altogether! What are we waiting for? Let's do it tonight over a beer. Then no more capitalism by morning! Who's with me? (-:

SMDH what you always selectively forget to mention is that 7-Eleven is VERY clear they are here to put the bodegas out of business and 'take' New York. This strategy has set them apart from most of the other chains in the city. They are opening locations right next to existing stores where they are not needing and putting them out of business. You are smart enough to understand this of course, but you choose to rail against No 7-Eleven like some small child who wasn't picked for a kickball team and seeks revenge.

SMDH you have your own blog to use as a forum to carry on about No 7-Eleven. Why do you keep using EV Grieve a platform of attack?

But human smuggling is SO much cheaper than flying!

@3:09 Because no one reads it.

A lot of you a very familiar with SMDH's blog, given that you claim to never read it.

Anon 7:07AM - FWIW, no one said they actually *read* it, just they know it exists.

Anonymous 10:43pm, Many people have described the articles, so that would indicate that they read it.

I loved the empanadas! Is there any way to find out if the chef is opening up another spot?
