It's probably for a motorcycle, the city is towing them if illegally parked on the sidewalk. Someone probably called 311 and got it towed. The solution is to park it legallly on the street so cars can back into it and tip it over.
Chances are that the motorbiker parked on someones driveway or on a sidewalk [with those pesky plates removed] and parked over someone's basement cellar door. So like the morons who chain their bikes to fences with sign stating not too, or to tree pit fences [or worse to the tree itself] had karma visit them first.
I have no issue whatsoever with the airing of grievances but why the fuck cannot people talk straight anymore. Language and discourse are devolving before our eyes.
Why does the owner of the illegally parked bike deserve a "friendly warning?" If you parked your bike illegally, you have to suck it up and pay the price when it gets towed!
99 percent chance this guy is entirely off-base here. The city has been very busy with their program of towing motorcycles and scooters that are in any of numerous violation status, including plates removed to avoid tickets, overdue fines on either the plate, or if missing, the vehicle VIN, improper or non-existent registration, parked on sidewalk, etc. They hoist them onto an open-bed truck and off they go. The truck was on A and 4th yesterday with about 8 bikes on there, and they were looking for about 3 more to fill it up before heading off to the yard. No one needs to call your bike in, the tow unit proceeds along checking the status of every bike they see parked. This is the second time I happened upon this operation in the hood in the last month, so we can assume they have been here quite a bit. So bite your tongue, and clear up your paperwork issues.
Moe is right, the city is loading up on motorbikes just in time for Christmas. The city is also looking for those noisy little gas powered bikes that are popping up everywhere and illegally using the bike lanes. These little noisemakers are popular in Cairo and Mumbai but are suddenly all over our streets wreaking havoc. The ones I've seen don't have license plates and are driven by speed crazed ninjas. The good news is you can hear them coming from a block away so you can jump back before they race by on their way back to the spice mines or camel bazaars or wherever they are always rushing off to.
