Revisiting A & C Kitchen on Avenue C

Here's an interesting tidbit that came out of the recent Dojo closure news... On Twitter, Dave Pentecost shared that one of the original Dojo chefs (from the days on St. Mark's Place) works at A & C Kitchen, 136 Avenue C between Eighth Street and Ninth Street...

I wasn't aware of this... and I hadn't ordered from A & C in ages (A & C has been around now for 25 years). I had forgotten how good the place is — with large portions and reasonable prices ... been there twice now in the past week...

Of course I can't vouch for everything on the extensive menu...

just a short-skip.....from stuyvesant town---we began ordering about three years ago, as a result of #1 chinese (16th/1st) going 'dark' (C rating from health dept---since upgraded)---food is wonderfully fresh/tasty (rather than typical greasy/gloppy) ! ps GREAT delivery people

They have a consistent A rating for the DoH.

Miss Kita the Wonder Dog had Christmas supper from there two years ago. We liked it. Nice place.

Another thing I didn't know! I'm so happy to have hijiki-tofu so close to home!

I love A&C. I think when they first opened C squat and the other squats were probably keeping them in business. I think I ate there every day for about two years haha....it was cheap and they were cool with all these dirty kids coming in. We gave them the idea for their gravy cheese fries...their "poutine" and they used to take food stamps too I recall as all stores did back then. Everyone in there would be paying in food stamps all the time. They are still nice and super busy all the time. Prices are up but you get so much food it really is the best chinese food place around.
