That was fast: Cafe Hanover on the market after five months in business

Back in the heady days of June, Cafe Hanover owners celebrated their grand opening on St. Mark's Place in the former Mondo Kim's space.

In a ceremony worthy of a funeral...

A few seizures here and there... and today, the space is now for rent...

Bummer. I liked that place a lot.

It's really kind of sad.
Hard times.

yeah, all the congratulatory/good luck/grand opening flowers make it seem really personal... like this was somebody's dream. despite the hard feelings of taking over the kim's space (i miss kim's multi-level experience) and participating in the disneyfication of st. mark's, i kind of feel like we witnessed another death of a dream. hard times indeed.

I never set foot in the place since Kim's left (remember when Kim's opened up on the 2nd floor above the then-Gap, on the corner of St. Mark's and 2nd Avenue???).

Nothing personal against this place, but I didn't quite get what it was. Food and karaoke and, I dunno, it was confusing and not appealing.

What went wrong? Seems like such a venture should have done well here.

Maybe the fact that there is already an excellent and well-established supermarket (St Mark's Market), which is open 24hours, right on the same block?
Still, all the prepared foods differentiated this spot.
It's unfortunate that it failed....
