[Updated] Breaking in the public plaza at 51 Astor Place

The 24-hour public plaza outside 51 Astor Place was unveiled back on June 21... and people have been using and enjoying the space, as far as we can tell...

... and it's starting to have that lived-in East Village look, complete with litter, tags and overflowing trash cans... as seen this weekend...

Updated 5:15

EVG reader John passes along this photo... showing a spotlessly clean plaza... the tags are gone. Ditto for the heading piles of trash...

How nice. Not a piss stain in sight.

When I walked by the other day I thought how it can't be long before they add those seat dividers to the benches to prevent people from laying down/sleeping on them.

I confess I find the Death Star kind of handsome, although it looks like it was designed by a glass manufacturer.

Pigs. Don't clean it, leave the trash. They don't deserve the convenience...

Where's the doorway shitter when you need him?!

Pathetic. This sorry behavior is exactly why we are becoming a surveillance state.

Its a shame there are so many adult children these days, there could be a trash can right next to them and they do shit like this...
Wonder why kind of punishment the animals should receive for tagging?

Ya know - if not for the tagging - I wouldn't have known these photos were in NYC (much less the East Village/LES)... Keep the tags - it adds some f'n CHARACTER to the soul-less wooden crates
