Terence Pugh, 24, was formally charged in the death of Rodriguez, 22, after a drug-related arrest two weeks ago.
DNAinfo has the story:
Pugh was first arrested at approximately 6 p.m. on June 6 near Bowery and Broome Street as part of a three-day takedown that netted a total of nine individuals after a months-long operation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office called “Operation D Block,” according to a law enforcement source.
The investigation was sparked by a rash of shootings plaguing Alphabet City, according to the source. Seven of the arrests took place at the Riis Houses and the Lillian D. Wald Houses, both in Alphabet City...
Pugh's younger brother Jamie was convicted of second-degree murder last August for the vicious beating of 68-year-old grandfather Wen Hui Ruan on East Sixth Street near Avenue D in May 2014. The younger Pugh is now serving a sentence of 25 years to life.
Ruan, a retired garment worker who lived on Avenue C and Seventh Street with his wife, had just dropped off his granddaughters when the attack occurred.
DNAinfo reported that mother of Terence and Jamie, Charlotte Pugh, was also arrested. "She had worked alongside her son dealing Percocet, according to court papers, and was charged with conspiracy in the fourth degree," per DNAinfo.

It's unbelievable that the accused killer is the older brother of the guy who killed Wen Hui Ruan last year. And now their mother is arrested for dealing Percocet. This whole family is like a mini crime spree, two murders on the same street in the last two years. Put them all away, forever.
If I'm remembering correctly, I believe after degenerate son #1 beat Wen Hui Ruan to death this mother tried to excuse the murder explaining her son was on drugs at the time...if so, maybe the mother was degenerate son #1's supplier.
This drug dealing mother of two murderers has a lot of explaining to do. Via DNA Info:

EAST VILLAGE — The man who beat a 68-year-old retired garment worker to death last week was high on the club drug Molly at the time and doesn't remember the attack, his mother told DNAinfo.com New York.
Jamie Pugh, 20, had been partying with friends last Friday when one of them slipped Molly into his drink, Charlotte Pugh-Douglas, Jamie’s mother, said before his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court Wednesday.
“He wasn’t in his right state of mind,” Pugh-Douglas, 45, said.
Shortly thereafter, Pugh attacked ex-garment worker Ruan Wen Hui, demanding the victim "gimme something" before hurling him into a wall then stomping and kicking his head on East 6th Street just off of Avenue D about 8:45 p.m. Friday, police said.
Pugh didn’t even know about the assault until one of his friends showed him the chilling surveillance footage over the weekend and said the attacker looked like him.
“When he saw the video, it killed him inside. It hurt him. He was crying all weekend. He knows it’s him. He just didn’t remember,” Pugh-Douglas said.
Hui was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition and died there on Saturday, police said.
“We feel so bad for the family and the man,” Pugh-Douglas said. “I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart, and so is Jamie.”
“He’s a good kid. He doesn’t get into this stuff,” she added. “If his friend hadn’t slipped him those Mollys, this man would still be alive.”
Pugh-Douglas said her son has a 1-year-old daughter and was trying to get a job in security.
He now faces murder, assault and robbery charges.
Pugh-Douglas said her only wish is that he doesn’t get life behind bars.
“I know my son is going to get a long time in jail,” she said. “I just hope he gets a chance to come home some day.”
Thank you, EVGrieve, for posting this. It's crazy that we spend so much time lamenting the "glory days" of the East Village, when the crime and criminals and thugs of the 1980's are still mostly with us...just hidden deep under news of new condo's. We must never forget that economically challenged people live in the East Village, too. Avenue D is as much a part of the East Village as Avenue A. And we Must Never Forget that thugs and murders still live among us, too. Crime hurts, murder kills and and drugs hurt us all.
Note that this is a small news item that generates little comment or interest. If it had been about FroYo, a new coffee place or biscuits, people would be truly up in arms.
Just a heartwarming story of a loving family, all working together towards the American Dream.

Spiritually enlightened.
This is so sad. Don't do drugs..they can be tainted and dangerous.
