Water Witch Mercantile hasn't been open this year
The specialty food shop at 115 St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue has been dark of late. According to a resident who lives nearby, Water Witch Mercantile hasn't been open yet in 2017.
There aren't any signs posted on the shop or its social media properties noting a temporary closure... (Yelp reports that the shop is closed.)
The shop opened in early November, and sold $14 specialty sandwiches like the Confit of Bluefin Tuna from Montauk, cured meats, artisanal cheeses and drip coffee, among other items. Water Witch was said to be a collaboration with the previous tenant, Box Kite Coffee, which also abruptly closed early last August.

For me a sandwich is a simple meal when you have little time for a proper meal. $14 is just too much for a sandwich or am I so out of touch and that is the new normal?
"Water Witch"? "Box Kite Coffee"? - who comes up with these non-business attracting names? They are like instant death knells.
So they were open for less then two months, bravo
@ 9:25 AM: Apparently not the new normal because they are not doing any business.
Are the recent closing due to bad business planning, an over estimation of what the neighborhood is willing to pay for glorified versions of less expensive simple food or just foolishness?
My greatest fear is someday every storefront which had the potential to provide a product or service that enriched the neighborhood will eventually become a bar since selling alcohol is the only profitable business model left.
Perhaps it was the passive-aggressive goodbye message that Boxkite left? I know that put me off ever going there again.
They were lovely people, so sad to learn they couldn't make it. They had terrific bread/fresh eggs. . . I wish they highlighted this aspect of their business more . . this end of the block is VERY quiet by day, especially in winter, not much foot traffic. . .
