Delicore: The line to see Diplo at Katz's After Dark Sunday night

We received some curious queries about the long lines outside the venerable Katz's Delicatessen on Sunday night... as lines of partygoers stretched in both directions here on Houston and Ludlow. (Thank you to Lisa Holiday for the top pic!)

This was billed as "Katz's After Dark" — "Invite only, for the industry by the industry" — and presented by Red Bull, as part of their Summer Sessions series, and the clothing brand Mr. Saturday

Attendees received complimentary Red Bull cocktails from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. ... and the usual Katz's fare.

There were four DJs on the bill, Joey Saturday, Mona Matsuoka, Gonnie Garko and headliner Diplo ...
This appears to be a one-time event, though there is a Katz's After Dark Instagram account in case there's ever a next time.

Katz's previously hosted Vogue's Pre Met Party this past spring.

A rave at katzs, never thought I'd see that...
And those sunglasses at 4am are really necessary.

A "one time event" until it becomes permanent event.

I don’t like it. Period.

Hmm.. I’m all for letting people have their fun. But that looks like it exceeded capacity. And I’m sure the neighbors loved the noise on a Sunday late night /sarcasm

Is it possible that the existence of some people is just an existential joke?

I've lived here for 120 years and NEVER have I seen people have fun in this neighborhood.

Next up: Diplo at Key Food?

I would not drink Red Bull or any other energy drink period whatsoever. These drinks are known to cause heart attacks, especially amongst younger people. And a line wrapped around a block is not really a good thing. Sorry for being a downer.

Amazing that people fret over others having fun. Stay salty losers.

Diplo used to be in isle three, Key Foods moved him to isle six.

Totally agree! And they’re anonymous saltines

Sure is awful to see the sacred quiet of the serene and transcendent Houston Street violated!

(OK, yes, I'm sure most of the attendees were one flavor or another of douche, but honestly.)

Agreed

OOOF how is that enjoyable?

You kids will learn in about 15 years when you’re old enough for the real world that people partying outside your apartment or where you live till 4 in the morning on a work day is less than ideal.

Oddly enough they weren't very loud. My window looks out on the "that's all" sign and we were both surprised to see this article today! We regularly get woken up by the street shenanigans out front but these guys didn't even make us look out the window to see what was going on let alone wake us up. Maybe they were just a very polite crowd?!

Lord, I wish I was still a kid. Instead, I'm a fully grown person (with a regular job) who's lived on enough large commercial arteries to be past hoping for any quiet in their vicinity.

Bad Bunny!

Who are their neighbors? The gentrifiers building across Ludlow that has ruined that block years ago?

Or maybe we’re just distressed that the EV has been overrun by people who think drinking Red Bull cocktails and listening to DJs until 4am then barfing on sidewalk in a venerable location is fun.

"a venerable location"

Again...HOUSTON STREET.

Doesn’t matter. Not an excuse to party till 4 am on a weeknight when people have a job and family to tend to the next morning. Not that difficult.

It better be a one time event. It was horrible for us neighbors....
