Zaragoza Mexican Deli & Grocery turned 13 yesterday

[via Facebook]

Several readers told us last night that one of our favorite places around, Zaragoza Mexican Deli & Grocery on Avenue A near East 14th Street, celebrated its 13th anniversary ...

Here's their message on Facebook yesterday:

It was 13 years ago today, when we first opened our doors in the East Village and shared our cooking with everybody. We want to say Thank You very much for all the support you have given use throughout all these years and look forward to many more.

I love this place.

I've been going there since the 2 Mexican brothers who worked at the much-missed Korean fruit stand on 14th bet 1st and A told me about it way back when. Great food and the only place around for a lot of the grocery stuff they stock. Five stars all around. Happy B'day Zaragoza!

I am a big fan of Zaragoza. Does anyone know when they will be able to sell beer again? I signed a peition a while back and hope he's not dealing with too much red tape. I NEED my Toña cerveza to compliment their chipolte pollo burrito!

Do they still have James Iha's Illinois drivers license attached to the front of the register? Always loved it.
