People behind Gestations still pretending to be opening a bar for pregnant women on Avenue A

From the EVG inbox from Friday evening…

Hi EVgreive,

People seem to have forgotten their Lamaze techniques and are panicking over the opening of our bar, Gestations.

In light of this recent media coverage, we thought we’d take this opportunity to give you a better idea of where we’re coming from.

Just like any other bar, Gestations’ only objective is to provide a specific segment of the population a place to gather, relax and socialize.

We are not advocating reckless behavior in any way — that is the responsibility of each individual — simply seeking only to provide a judgment-free place where people can congregate and enjoy a drink or two.

We’d love for you to learn more and get to know us a little better before passing any judgments and encourage you do so on Facebook, Twitter or [redacted] for exclusive photos, information, and the latest on bars like us.

Gestations Bar

The broker for the storefront told us that the building's landlord rented the space for the sign for a month. (You have a few weeks left to enjoy.) The bar's supposed opening date is Oct. 25.

The storefront at 72 Avenue A at East Fifth Street remains on the market. According to the active listing, the asking price is $7,800.

Previously on EV Grieve:
No, 'NYC's first bar for pregnant women' isn't opening on Avenue A

The East Village is always pushing the envelope!

Why did you redact one of the site names?

That sign still makes me laugh. And I'm still not getting the context.

I don't get this at all.

A bad joke by frat boys with way too much money and no brains. (Oh, wait, that was redundant.)

Extremely, aggressively not funny. Negative talent.

Having worked in the ad industry, you wouldn't believe how many meetings, reviews, revisions, etc., went into producing this garbage.

"oooooooh, but it worrrkkked! People are taaaaalking about it!".

Anonymous 4:34, That's true, but the idea for the bar came first, and the campaign had to be approved by the owner.

Judging by the non-stop parade of lunkheads that I see snapping photos of this window, the appeal to NewJersey types and North Europeans who are struggling with their English is considerable.

Why don't these jerks go all the way and advertise "deliver-ations, the bar for women in labor." (No admission until you're dilated at least 4cm. - that would be cervix, not pupils of the eyes.) And you must be accompanied by your ob/gyn and a nurse. Or maybe the bartender can be an ob/gyn.

If this represents an ad agency's dream ("people are talking about it"), they should remember what people are actually SAYING when they talk about it: "What a bunch of jerks."

Whenever they reveal who's behind this, I'll make it a point to NEVER have anything to do with anything they're involved in.

Wait, so I got knocked up for nothing?

If anyone wants to write a rude e-mail to the company behind this stupid marketing stunt, they can be reached at

Need some inspiration? Here's what I sent:

Your stupid "viral ad campaign" "Gestations - the bar for pregnant women" is not only asinine and juvenile, it's morally repugnant. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Fetal alcohol syndrome is a serious problem and you're making fun of it to make a buck?

I will make it a point to never download your app, and will recommend that my friends delete it if I ever see them using it. Someday I hope idiot marketing people will get over this idea that "any publicity is good publicity". I hope your startup fails.

Fuck you with a rusty shovel,
