Social Tees has moved into the former Gimme Gimme Records space

[Bobby Williams]

As you may have noticed, Social Tees has a new home now over on East Fifth Street next door to the 9th Precinct ... in the former home of Gimme Gimme Records. Slum Goddess noted this move last week. (Read her post here.)

Social Tees had moved into an East Second Street storefront in December 2011. And that Second Street space is on the rental market. Per the Massey Knakal listing, "most uses considered." Rent for the 950-foor-square space is available upon request.

Gimme Gimme closed last fall after being Cromanized. The store, which had celebrated its 18th year here, has reopened in Los Angeles. If you happen to be in the area...

Social Tees is a great place to adopt a cat, dog, bird, lizard or whatever. Robert will find a perfect match for you and if things don't work out you can always go back and try a different animal. It's a no-kill shelter and they've successfully placed thousands of animals who otherwise would have killed ("put to sleep"). So don't buy a pet-- adopt!

Robert is a great guy and does great work. I adopted a cat from him for my mom, and it was a match made in Heaven. Thanks, Robert -

To Social Tee's I say, "Welcome to the Block" and keep up the good work!!!
(On a sad note I still see potential customers stopping by "Gimme Gimme Records" to find that it is gone. They look in the window, double check the address and walk away dissapointed. Most have guide books or maps in hand and appear to have made the extra effort to find the store.)

Here here to robert and the guys at social t's. I am curious though, if Croman still owns the space, couldn't that be problematic?

@ Anon 153: If they step inside, Robert will make them forget about records and they'll end up taking two cats home before they knew what happened. And they'll be glad they did!

@BJ: I should have been clearer in my comments. The Gimme Gimme customers still coming by and leaving dissapointed was during the vacant period, before Social Tees was in the space.
It is rare that a loss(GimmeGimme)
is followed with a win(SocialTees)
To often lately a loss(neighborhood store) is followed by a loss(Bank or chain store)

Customers are coming by on days Gimme was never even open wondering what happened. Croman is still the owner. He is okay with it. Krishnas seem to be taking the space next door for themselves soon. I like how truly weird East 5th st is getting even in the midst of all the 7/11's!

GIMMIE GIMMIE DOGGIES (& KITTIES)

I stopped by today to say hello to Robert. He told me they are still doing some work to get the new space sorted out and up to code (taking out drop ceiling, in staling an exhaust fan etc.).

He's expecting to be "officially open" in February. There are some sweet little kittens and very pretty cats available for adoption now though if you're in the market for a furry friend.
