Amor Bakery will not reopen on Avenue B

[Derrick Loris]

Back on April 22, a small fire broke out at 224 Avenue B at the Amor Bakery... the FDNY quickly put out the blaze... neighbors reported minimal damage... Still, it was apparently enough to permanently shutter Amor ... the bakery never did reopen here near East 14th Street ... and workers have recently cleared out the interior ...

The space is available, though not officially on the market with a "for lease" sign just yet.

Among other things, the neighborhood bakery was known for creating a variety of "specialty" cakes fit for any occasion that called for abs and boobs...

Oh, bummer. They were always so nice - and they were about the last outpost I know of in the nabe for toasted buttered bread and Spanish coffee. Anyone else got a lead on another place? That bakery has been there in one incarnation or another longer than I have lived in the EV - the landmarks just keep falling like flies.

That was such fun place, and the prices were very much old school. Always picked up some cookies when passing by. Goodbye old friends!

With cakes like that, I am bummed I never went there before. Now I hear of buttered toast and Spanish coffee too? I missed out big time!
