Of rats and parties

You may have seen Gawker's "Vermin-Party Index" from yesterday afternoon... in which they examined more than 260,000 311 complaints classified as "vermin" or "loud party/music" from January 2010 to July 2013.

How did this area fare? Pretty good! (Well, good as in bad.)

No surprises here...

Top Party Complaint Neighborhoods:
Interior Williamsburg (11211): 3,544 complaints
East Village (10009): 3,106
Lower East Side (10002): 2,985

Overall though, when you combine the number of vermin and party complaints, we just cracked the top 20 in the five boroughs. The 10009 zip was 20th with 3,761 total complaints about rats and parties... and 10003 was 29th with 3,120 complaints.

Tops? The 11226 zip (Flatbush) with 7,574 complaints, of which 5,847 were rat related.

Head over to Gawker for all the charts and what not.

You could also call this the Whiny Baby Index.

STFU, 7:29. I hate the, "It's a city, it's supposed to be loud!" set. There's city noise and there's wanton mayhem noise (usually fueled by cheap pitchers of beer). But anyway...

I'm in 10002 and I'm sure 8 or 9 of the 2,985 311 noise complaints were issued by me. Represent! :)

There's be more noise complaints in the EV if the Ninth Precinct ever bothered to answer their phone after 11 PM at night.

Whatever happened to Bloomberg's noise code?

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/06/08/nyregion/bloomberg-seeks-to-toughen-code-for-noise-in-city.html

I guess he and his gestapo look the other way if his kiddies and minions, i.e bars, douchefrats, tourists, transients, etc., are violating the code. As long as vermin-parties are a quality in his kiddies's life, then it's not a quality of life issue.

Arbitrary and capricious, just like that other law the Emperor is trying to pass.

Anonymous 8:08,
We don't know what the correlation is between noise events and noise complaints. One event might yield two complaints in one locations while two events somewhere else yield one complaint. All we can really say about this index is that there are more complainers in some areas than in others -- or, whiny babies.

I guess the "whiny baby" person doesn't work, or sleeps like a rock. For the rest of us, there is a difference between normal city noise (which the A/C or fan covers up for the most part) and thumping bass til 4am and people literally screaming at the top of their lungs and fighting outside your window.
When you have to wake up at 6am to get to work and there is a bass boost party until 4-5 am you might feel differently. But I guess you and your frat buddies wouldn't understand that, bro.
