Tonight is the 13th annual 'I Hate Christmas Party' at Casey Rubber Stamps

Time again for this annual event at Casey Rubber Stamps, one of our favorite stores around... hosted by the legendary John Casey... perhaps you can expect some holy spirits and Veniero's cheesecake like last year.

Thanks to EVG reader That One Day for the flyer...

Here's a little more on the shop via WNYC...

The walls of his narrow shop — which doubles as his workshop — on 11th Street in Manhattan are lined with myriad stamps ranging from whales to peas-in-a-pod, spider webs, shells, guns, teeth, the Manhattan skyline and even that most fearsome creature: the bed bug. About half his business comes from selling pre-made stamps that range from $3 to $15. The other half is custom designs that customers request or bring in.

Rubber stamping is a simple technology that dates back about 150 years — and to judge from the operation at this tiny store, it really hasn't changed that much.

The shop is at 322 E. 11th St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue.

This is the coolest, repeat coolest little specialized shop. John is delightful, and he's extra friendly to dogs. The word Leprechaun springs to my mind. In the interest of full disclosure I do have an Irish dog, albeit with a Russian name. I passed there yesterday and it was totally jam packed. I love this guy!

A few times in the past, Christmas was lookin' to be pretty shitty.....so we celebrated the Anti-Christmas.....hung a small Charlie Brown tree upside down from the ceiling.....a nice ring of some imported sausage as the tree bottomer.....nothing but blue lights....and at the Bizarro Christmas Party, NOTHIN' but Halloween/Thanksgiving/July 4th/Birthday music while depositing Christmas cards in the Burning Bowl.....and if you mentioned Santa = "DRINK!", along with a hearty round of catcalls.

Needless to say, by the end of the night, we hard-core anti-materialist hipsters were arm in arm BELTIN' out "White Christmas", while mindlessly bouncin' around to James Brown's "Santa's Got A Brand New Bag" and the Ramones' version of "I Don't Believe In Christmas" (among MANY others).

The severity of the Christmas Morning Hangover let you know how good a time was had by all.

REAL good times!!!

From ALL of Canada (well,....me) to all of you......
Have a GREAT holiday......remember to take the pressure OFF.....and watch out for Santas on Shiti-Bikes tonight!

MERRY CHRISTMAS (and ALL the other like-minded celebration greetings) EVERYBODY!

We went. Talked vintage letterpress and litho machines (about which bloggers know nothing.) Bayou flirted with the cat and I turned down the whiskey because I'm not man enough. Working on it.
