Moxy East Village opening date now set for late 2019 on 11th Street

The opening for the Moxy East Village here on 11th Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue had been slated for late 2018... an unrealistic/optimistic date given how much work there was left on the 285-key hotel for Marriott's Moxy brand.

The Moxy website now shows a new opening date — late 2019...

Meantime, workers have reached the eighth floor... with five more to go...

And as a reminder about the finished product...

Will De Blasio be there for the opening, to cut the ribbon on the death of our neighborhood? Will he be smiling & telling everyone how much this area NEEDS this horror?

Will he cheerfully take credit his administration's part in wrecking the neighborhood this has been (and should be)?

This place, IMO, is gonna make this "stupid-kiddies-who-drink-and-trash-the-place central."

Shame about those landmark-eligible buildings and the people who lived there; but then none of that matters to De Blasio! I'm sure he & NYC got a nice cut of this deal.

Just one more architecturally boring structure replacing more imaginative elements of earlier builders. Everything new that goes up in the EV lately looks like it came from the same cookie-cutter design. The architect of this building probably graduated at the bottom of his class.

This pile of dreck looks just like all the bland, personality-free buildings that are now defiling 14th Street between Aves A and B. The manufacturer of "featureless gray and red slab construction facades" is certainly making a killing in this neighborhood...

The hotel design is fine. (It looks much better than any of the nearby NYU dorms.) The issue really is that it's out of context in this particular space and neighborhood. You'll get used to it soon enough.

@1:09pm: I disagree with you, and your statement about getting used to it might as well say "you'll not only get used to it, you'll LIKE it - and that's final!"

Translation: Our betters have decided what's good for us, so we must accept it and roll over and play dead.

The Poxy will flood the neighborhood with Hell Square type crowds looking to "party". Traffic and noise will go trough the roof and anyone living nearby will suffer from the loss of life quality.

I think this will become a homeless shelter. Certainly even the Poxy would like a piece of that profitable city taxpayer profligate action.

The poxy, that's outstanding.

The demolition permit was issued before any of the preservation groups even knew about the plans to demolish the Federal style buildings that were filled by several rent-stabilized tenants. So much for affordable housing concerns.
The developer was a big contributor to the DeBlasio campaign fund. What else is new?
