Breaking AND developing: No water in the East Village?

After the major water main break on Broadway and East 23rd Street about 10:40 ... we're hearing from various people in the East Village who say that their water has been shut off... (haven't heard anything official from the city about the water...)

An update from the Twittersphere...

And readers from the neighbor our reporting in via the comments...

This is a great site! I tried 311 and looked all over nyc.gov and your site is the only place I could find information on what was happening with the water pressure in the East Village. Thanks for being awesome!

I'll take "Posts You Least Want To Read While Your Scalp Is Burning From a Copious Application of Bleach," Alex!

THANK GOD I just learned we have water (tho very little pressure) at E 3rd St and 1st Ave. Or that could have been a scene from a really shitty Katherine Heigl movie.

WWTSD? (what would Tish & Snooky do?) Seriously, I thought i was gonna have a heart attack.

Now typing with soothing Manic Panic Virgin Snow on my head, I am, as ever, yr faithful correspondent, etc.

This is according to Gothamist: "As for water issues in lower Manhattan, they say that "everybody has water. We did shut down the water to stop the flooding. You may be experiencing low water pressure but it should be coming back now." "

No water downtown on William Street - wtf?
No info on 311 or nyc.gov - how can a break in the Flatiron District be impacting us downtown? #annoyed

Still no water in the Washington Square Park area as of 3:00 PM. Agreed with the other comments that you're awesome! It's unbelievable that official city channels as well as large scale news sites don't have more accurate updates on this; at least those who know this blog know where to turn for the real info.

No water at Whole Foods at Bowery and Houston and the Chinatown YMCA this afternoon. The swimming pool was still full, though.

no water on division street. anybody got any idea what's going on? is it really only one pipe supplying all the water downtown?

As of 7:30, still no water in my building. I understand these things take time; I wouldn't mind so much if we were getting any information at all from the city or the news media.

Did a Google search on what's going on with the lack of water in my building and came up with this site. Pretty cool. We're not back to normal yet (West Village), so no use of shower, etc.
