Better yet, why didnt you do your 'reportorial' duty and ask the pompous fuck why he posted all those 'Wally says' spouting antisemitic comments all over his window? That's even more horrific than a boycot sign.
Woody Allen was filming a scene at Mogador. De la Vega didn't like the disruption caused by the trailers and crews. He even blared his stereo speakers to interrupt filming. Woody Allen asked him personally to turn down the music, which De la Vega didn't like. Next thing you know, he's boycotting Mogador. I assume the "Jews Only" signs are for Woody Allen. Kind of ironic anti-Semitism, but anti-Semitism nonetheless.
Anyway, last time I passed by, Mogador was packed and De la Vega's Museum was empty.
The only reason that people look favorably upon Mogador is because they give a bunch of nobody's a sense of importance. De La Vega is a powerful institution unto himself that provokes thinking where thoughtlessness is commonplace.
The previous comment was obviousely posted by de la Vega or a member of his family. By the way, I am more Puerto Rican than that jerk is Jewish. If he is Jewish (which I dont believe for a minute) then he is seriousely self-hating. His anti-semitic postings wre all over his window in late-March so this had nothing to do with woody allen. Even if it was about Woody that didntg give him a right to besmirch all Jews or else I would have the same right to besmirch all Puerto Ricans for the horrific time that I had living with them growing up.
Can anything be said about the jews without it immediately being interpreted as anti-semitic? I think the Jews Only chairs are great. If the chairs said something about Mexicans or if he was boycotting an asian restaurant, would anyone even care?
DeLaVega could be a better neighbor - wears the shades but wont catch yr eye, and doesn't do the neighbor nod when we pass him on a regular basis- the chair signs have been around for a while : Jews, Fat Girls, hmm, inclusion through labels? - he seems to be committed to their artistic expression - offensive but not in a good piss christ way - Mogador is a good restaurant, used to be you could sit for hours and read or write - it's too popular now - a woody allen movie??
If you had seen his window postered with 50 'Wally Says' (wally being a cartoon worm) spouting 50 different anti-semtic rantings ('They should call it Jew York, Israel the 51st state, etc). you would also say these were clearly anti-semitic. If there had been 50 'Wally says' anti-black comments, you would be calling him a racist.
"Become Your Dream" has transformed lives and New York City's streets- what has Cafe Mogador done for the neighborhood other than charge too much for hummus? DE LA VEGA provides inspirational messages for everyone to enjoy- at no cost- how much of a better neighbor can you get? He represents something that transcends all of this petty conversation- which is probably why small minds cannot comprehend such strong language.
My guess is that De La Vega is boycotting Mogador because they exploit their Mexican workers. They're the ones preparing and serving the Mogador meal experience.
Anonymous @1:45, I'm sure Wally said some very interesting if not accurate things about your racial/sexual orientation too but it doesn't need to be plastered all over his windows to promote what, a bashing of some-sort?..If it had happened by his incitement would you still be applauding his 'Wally says' shit, you moron?
I am a NYC teacher who has followed De La Vega's career for the past decade, and I have brought groups of my students to his museum to experience his powerful message. His words hold weight, and I am sure that this boycott will have its impact on the neighborhood.
Yes I must have a small mind to abhor (sorry, big word for you, I meant 'hate') such blatant bigotry posted by the junior artiste De la Vega. Le me guess to generate some controversy so he can sell his shitty trinkets? If such blatent bigotry and hating is 'big-minded' then I cont have it, sorry, shmuck.
ouch ouch ouch - enough hurt here to go around twice - being shitty to a group of people other than your kind of people never comes to any good - DLV has not been friendly to me - I can judge him on that - but was I friendly to him? You could judge me, but why bother? Lets all be rough on people who put themselves out there, in the public, not anonymous or pseudonymous , right or wrong, stupid decisions or politically correct - there is probably enough wrong here to go around twice too. - - now i want to be a good locust - we're all too close together to act like a bunch of assholes, get up a swarm, eat all the crops...
People who don't know the Woody Allen Story shouldn't try to tell it. I was in the store when a fat lady from the crew came in and offered De La Vega $200 to close shop for the day. She was dismissed and on the way out said, "Its not like you can make that kind of money."
De La Vega has the right attitude. I'm more concerned with the rats not on four legs who scurry around pretending to have lives, but only really exist within the context of restaurants, cafes, bars, cupcake (fkin) shops, soap stores..blah blah the fckin blah blah.

You didn't care enough to ask about the sign, but you cared enough to post a photo and write something about it??
Ha! Good point, anon! I struck that from the post. I do care enough to post it!
This is one of the more interesting things I've seen on here in a while. Why are they boycotting Mogador?
Maybe they didn't have an " I'm not a Racist, just a Misunderstood Artist" chair sign for his hungry behind?
I was in a hurry when I took the photo. I walked by an hour or so later and the store was closed for the day... So I didn't get a chance to ask....
not a huge fan of either, but i do find this very funny. i think it's just a joke.

Not sure if it qualifies as anti-semitic if he's jewish...at least I am told he is jewish

To make oneself hated is more difficult than to make oneself loved. - Picasso
It is bold of De La Vega to initiate a boycott against mogador and the snobbish culture it creates in a neighborhood quickly being gentrified
its about time someone took it to the jews.
Maybe this was all started by cafe mogador waitresses, who I have seen flirting with him in his museum or wearing his t-shirts.
Jessie, everyone has taken it to the Jews but we always come back stronger and smarter, you itsy bitsy little flea

Kairos Kim- perhaps if you had shopped in his museum maybe he would remember you enough to give you a neighborly nod.
