A fundraiser for Noor, a cat struck by a car on 10th Street

On Sunday night, East Village residents Rachael Brungard and Matt Lipson were among the horrified onlookers to see a cat dart onto 10th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue and get struck by a car.

The two were able to carefully transport the cat, named Noor, to the Village Veterinarian on 11th Street.

Unfortunately, the collision left Noor with many injuries, including pneumothorax, pulmonary contusions, traumatic brain injury, a left humeral fracture, abrasions and bruising.

Rachael and Matt are taking responsibility for Noor's care and will foster him through the recovery.

Rachael also said they'll likely adopt him. "I'm already attached after one day, and we are in love with this little guy," she said in an email. (Noor usually stays in the Half Moon Smoke Shop on 10th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue, which won't be an option post-surgery.)

There's a crowdfunding campaign underway to help pay for Noor's surgery. You can find more information at the GoFundMe here.

How kind hearted of them - humanity still exists.
Poor baby, but also lucky to get a loving family and home.
Will definitely help.

Use this form to demand the city will install Speed Humps on this block that will force drivers going down hill, trying to beat the light on Avenue A, to slow down: https://www1.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/contact/contact-form.shtml

Does that mean we shouldn't donate to the cat's care?

I am so pissed at these businesses that have cats and don’t take any responsibility for keeping them safe. This cat is lucky he was rescued by such kind people.

This is a cool idea; I will submit something later today. The car that hit Noor just sped right through. Didn't even stop. That segment of East 10th is kind of treacherous for everyone and a speed bump would probably help!

How horrifying what this cat has endured. How the hell did this happen? Why wasn't he looked after? Perhaps CCTV could capture the driver at hand? I am sickened to my stomach reading this story. Many drivers in this neighborhood are reckless, especially during evenings and weekends. I am overwhelmed from the kindness of this lovely, caring couple. The world needs more people like them. I am a cat dad and love my fur baby to the moon. I can't imagine anything happening to my orange tabby. I am sending positive energy and good wishes for Noor's recovery. And, I will contribute to the fund today. Thank you for posting this.

Even a responsible driver could hit a cat that darts out into the street. This cat should be kept safe indoors. There are other bodegas in the neighborhood, throughout the city, that allow their cats to roam outside and there have also been cats that have been rescued from stores in our neighborhood that don't properly care for their cats and refuse to treat cancer and other diseases. I know people think it is fun to see a cat in the deli. But sadly they aren't always properly cared for. I tried to talk the guys at a deli on Avenue A out of having a cat because they had multiple cats in one year. I don't know what was happening to the cats that they had to keep replacing them.

Thanks for posting this. I'm donating for this poor little kitty. So happy he has caring people who will give him a loving home and help in his recovery.

I'm so upset that Noor kitty got hit. I saw him cross the street a couple of times Friday night and spoke with someone from the smoke shop. I wish whatever i said had been more persuasive. So sad they did not keep him inside where he'd be safe.
