Is CBGB back from the dead?

[Corbis]

First Marky Ramone's (probably fake) leather jacket, now this?

So Gothamist is reporting this morning that somebody or another will be opening a new outpost of CBGB. Per Gothamist:

We have it on good authority that the legendary venue is still alive in spirit, and angling to take over a new space in Manhattan. With the contents of the original club still around in a basement somewhere, if all goes according to plan it will even look like the old space.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn Vegan notes a tweet from an alleged official CBGB Twitter account that asked, "who would you like to see at the #CBGB Music Festival this summer? No band to big or to small."

Hmmm... so where does all this rate on the idea scale — good, bad...

Um, this is a fucking horrible idea.

Thank you.

And there you have it. The CBGB Music Festival. I'd be curious to know which corporate sponsor is going to tell us what cool, hip music we should be listening to while standing around looking vacant and AIDS stricken in John Varatos clothing. Afterall, if it wasn't for BMW and Guggenheim we'd have NO idea how to turn our streets into buzzing think tanks.

Pass.

If done right, I think it could be a good way to continue the club's legacy. But I agree that corporate sponsorship would fuck it up.

I highly doubt it would be done right. I have visions of a Hard Rock styled CBGB's going up. As far as who's headlining their "festival"...Lady Gaga!

What do we need another museum for?

Worst...idea...ever.

I couldn't even imagine what that would be like. Oh. Wait. Yes I can. It would be like everything that came to back to life when buried in Stephen King's Pet Sematary. Looks the same, but will kill you in the end.

Especially true because the Ramones predicted this. Sheena Is a Punk Rocker and Pet Sematary are both in the movie.

@Marty No, worse. Lana Del Rey!

Is there a CBGB Las Vegas yet? That sounds like something that would probably happen.
