Kung Fu Tea closes on East 10th St.; move to St. Mark's Place apparently in the works

The Kung Fu Tea location at 241 E. 10th St. at First Avenue closed for business after Friday… there is a note on the door…

While there isn't any mention of this on the sign or elsewhere … word from St. Mark's Place neighbor Jordy Trachtenberg is that Kung Fu Tea will move over to 32 St. Mark's Place … formerly the home of 8 Crown Trade, the family run T-shirt and souvenir shop at No. 28 that was ousted by a rent hike last June…

After this move occurs, you will have plenty of bubble tea choices right here… TKettle is directly next door while CoCo Fresh Juice & Tea is directly across the street.

...yogurt, tea, wax, repeat; but still no room for Ninth Street Bakery, which called the East Village home for 80 years.

That place is always so busy, so you have to think the move rumors are correct. The majority of their client base seems to be young Asians/Asian-American students and professionals. I'm completely blanking on whether there are non-Japanese Asian options on that block of St. Marks.

Busy? I live right next door to the original location, and the place is usually either empty or has one or two customers.

I've been by this Kung Fu Tea countless few times and many people often were in (or mulling about) the shop. Certainly more than I would usually guess. Your personal experiences may vary.

There's a few Korean restaurants and a few Chinese places on St. Marks. The majority of all the Asian places cater to Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese, either foreign or Americans. The tofu place, pork belly place, and the place that has BonChon chicken wings are all Korean run businesses. I think there are a few Chinese or Taiwanese businesses as well. On any given day, you can hear Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, or Cantonese being spoken. Makes sense for this place to move to St. Marks.

You live right next door and you think this place is empty?

I frequent this place and I live a couple blocks down. It's not a sit-down place, so it usually looks empty, as people just get their drinks and go.

But whenever I'm in there making large orders and have to wait, there'd be at least 5-6 customers in and out.

There's no way this place is going out of business due to financial struggles; I, too, am betting on a move.
