And now, 14 photos of the big-ass cranes on Avenue A

Well, what a day! The Spring Social Season began with not one but two cranes anchored on Avenue A between East Sixth Street and East Fifth Street… there to lift (or whatevs) a new transformer into the Con Ed substation

Here are 14 various views of all this…

Wow that is impressive! Considering all this to bring the new transformer in, it was amazing how quietly the old transformer was removed without the large equipment and road blocks....
Coned brought in a group of transformer dismantlers from Iowa and they were very friendly and professional, I spoke with them several times when they were on break. We hardly even knew they were next door working as they removed the old transformer back in January.

@Anon 7:11? Quiet? Really? I live next door, too, and the chainsawing has been driving me nuts for months. Is that from something different they're doing? Also--I could live without their yelling at each other beginning at about 7 every morning. It really feels hostile, as though it's designed to rouse any of us who might still be sleeping.
