Virage closed until April 15 for renovations

As we pointed out on Friday, Virage would be closing today for some kind of unspecified makeover on Second Avenue at East Seventh Street.

Signs on the 14-year-old restaurant this morning don't offer up much details ... other than they will reopen on April 15. (No mentions of the renovations just yet on Virage's website or Facebook page.)

The brunch/lunch/dinner spot was closed for renovations for several days back in December 2010.

renovations should be in quotations. and you're right in writing that this is a makeover. What is now an affordable restaurant that both caters to locals and transients, will now be another trendeatery, luxe artisanal gastropub catering to the moneyed transients. They'll be capitalizing on the nescience and gullibility of the fundy -- the Bros of Wall Street, the tech bros, their sorostitutes, the trustafarians.

Maybe they can remodel it back to Rays Pizza.

Oh 9:54, hope you are wrong, but sadly, am prepared to give up on yet another pleasant spot...

They're not availing themselves of the fact that they have a full liquor license, thus expect a boozier brunch and drink menu with $15 cocktails and a smaller, as in both small portions and limited choices, food menu. Welcome to the East Village, bar capital of the United States.

They are still not open or anywhere near it as of Easter, 2014
