Seriously: I'm not that concerned about the newcomers. Seems to me that nail places always come and go. (And fwiw, my standby pedi place is the salon on the west side of 1st Ave at 2nd street: cheap, and the staff is super-duper-nice. And they've been in the nabe for years.)

Ha! I like the chant!
Like Marjorie, I think manicure salons and facialists etc. are fine neighbors. These small shops are like shoe repair, optometrists, hardware stores: necessary to the upkeep of the neighborhood, so to speak.
They often open on side streets and are quiet with mostly reserved clientele, and unlike bars they serve the neighborhood during the day. That exterior Blush space above is really pretty, and the Smooth Skin Factory neon sign has a retro charm.
