Nice pics, but seriously one of the lamest Macy's displays ever (certainly for EV) It was better for us on the Hudson. And can somebody tell me the point of having the launch on three barges that were separated by about 30 ft apart? I shoulda just watched on TV.
I agree. And why the aggressive police forcing, and closing the bridges and piers? It was like an occupied country. Let's bring it back to the Hudson. NYC doesn't deserve this fiasco of its own creation.
The fireworks were moved because of rip currents caused by Hurricane Arthur. Instead of moving them back to the Hudson, they should move back up the East River. Also, watching them on TV is dreadful. The music is bad, and there are too many cut-aways to flags and soldiers.
It was like listening to your grandpa's Lawrence Welk records.....but bad versions of even those......SOOOOO MANY fantastic versions of those tunes by NYC-based artists (i.e. Pearl Bailey's GBA ; Ray Charles' America ; Fletcher Henderson's SSB ; etc.; ETC.)....
.....we caught the drift early on, shut down the audio feed, threw the long, live version of Talking Head's "Burnin' Down The House".....synced PERFECTLY!
And I know it's been done to death.....but not finishing with Frankie's NYNY is just WRONG!
Just one more phase of the NYC Blandness Epidemic (that seems to be sweeping the nations).
Next year, we're gonna loop "I Wanna Be Sedated", crank it to 11, and fuck with the neighbors. Nothing like a buncha 60+ die-hards acting like teens to make the 4th REALLY special :+)
Thousands of people on the East River walkway next to the FDR and north of the amphitheater were surprised and disappointed that there was nothing to see. Some were bemused at the ridiculousness of their effort to flow and squeeze into the crowds for nothing, but some were upset, especially the ones with kids. It was crazy that they didn't have a barge or two between the Brooklyn and the Williamsburg bridges--that would have been a treat for many.
