Christmas Eve Eve, ruined

The lights remain off on the Tompkins Square Park holiday tree...

In a search for answers, Lola Sāenz points to this mysterious hole near the tree...

There's no immediate explanation for the hole, and whether it is natural — or supernatural.

It is the new sinkhole in the park. Some electrical issues. I took some pics of it at night so kinda dark. If I jump in it its up to my neck. NOT THAT I DID.

For Lo! The earth did open up and all manner of trash did collect therein and there was no artifice, neither Big Belly nor $100 trash can, but only the miracle of the Lord.

It is the wonder of Christmas that ye shall remain dark until ye pick after yourselves up. And let this hole remain as a sign unto you, lest ye stumble and fall into the true pit of hellfire.

....

Sorry, folks. This is an easy call. Shocking that people didn't get it, although there are, come to think of it, none so blind as those that haven't had their morning coffee yet.

It's always darkest right before everything goes pitch black. If only the NYPD would bring back the menacing watchtower and blinding floodlights, we could all gather around and sing Christmas carols, and pretend that these unwrapped gifts from the police state were actually holiday decorations.

A very large rat.

Because the playground is closed, all day care centers bring their rambunctious pre-tots to play around that tree, and they probably, you know, short circuited it, as kids do.

If the Parks Department thinks their fake vortex trick is going to distract us from the Holiday tree light fiasco, they are mistaken.

For the record, I also thought it was a rat hole.
