EVG reader Doug notes that the lines are back to pre-March 2020 levels at Tim Ho Wan at 85 Fourth Ave. at 10th Street ... as seen today for their 11 a.m. open.
The Hong Kong-based, Michelin-starred dim sum parlor officially opened here in January 2017. And they've been able to keep the crowds coming back (except when they were closed for indoor dining during the pandemic).

This pandemic has enabled many of us to re-examine priorities. I don't care how outstanding the food is here or anywhere else. I won't stand in line, hours on end, especially in colder weather now, then shuffled into a packed space during a pandemic just to eat food. I fail to understand the hype or hysteria of this destination. My neighbor visited once and said she had to wait for almost two and half hours during a winter evening in Feb 2020 to get in. I thought she was nuts. Are the dumplings really that good and life altering? Someone please break it down for me.
That doesn't look like the before times lines that you are talking about @11:55. Those people are just waiting for the door to open. That crowd will fill about 2/3 of their dining room. A far, far cry from the old days. If you are that curious you can just walk in and try the 'dumplings'. They also do takeout.
this place is expensive and quite overrated. unfortunately, at the moment, most of us cannot go(or even want to go to) the new hong kong aka china and try the amazing and inexpensive dim sum at the original location in shum shui po! now, that place is worth waiting in line for! (other locations of tim ho wan that i have been in hong kong had a better atmosphere, but the food paled in comparison)
