Dunkin' Donuts-branded door handle arrives on Cooper Square

As we first reported back on May 16, the city's 34,000th Dunkin' Donuts is taking over the former Norman's Sound & Vision space at 67 Cooper Square.

We happened to notice one small detail of DD's arrival: the door handle…

Norman's Sound & Vision closed after 22 years in August 2012 … with high rents chasing them to Williamsburg.

What a sad day.

Norman's was the place. No matter what, any time you walked in the door you could expect to hear some fantastic and unexpected music, often new discoveries. I was introduced to so much great music over the years that Norman would play in that store. Countless hours spent digging through the bins (especially in the dusty basement). Avant-jazz, psyche-rock, dub, electronics, no wave....

Now we can look forward to hearing corporate-boardroom-approved focus-group-tested algorithm-vomited top-40 lowest-common-denominator braindeath from above.

Enter at your own risk.

P.S. If they dare to play Gang of Four in-store, I'll buy a dozen donuts.

I'll say it before someone else does:

D-Day.

(No disrespect by this hyperbolic dramatization intended for those brave individuals who experienced the real D-Day).
