Well it's true. It's not among the top spectator sports in the US, what you gonna do? It's not a big deal.

In the meantime, it's back to béisbol and sending the drones (and clowns).
I believe that we will win, I believe that we will win, I believe that we will win. U.S.A.! U.S.A! U.S.A.! God shed his grace on thee!

Living in this neighborhood for four years, I've never seen such a patriotic and passionate group of onlookers. I live across from the beer garden on 7th and C. I hear screams and cheers from my window as I try to work. When I head out, I've seen grown men, hyper masculine men, macho men, frat boys, no doubt, cry hysterically over a win, or a loss, and how they are completely mesmerized by the game itself, entranced into another mindset, perhaps even on a different planet, some shaking, loosing control, and others reactions, which are downright terrifying to witness. While the World Cup has its place in culture, its just a game people. A game. A game. A game. Is it just that or is it the end of the world or life as we know it? I will be elated once it is over.

Still.. It was worthy of the hangover.

@9:28, according to the NY Times, "Fourteen percent of people between the ages of 12 and 24 said professional soccer was their favorite sport, second only to the N.F.L."

The roving crowds of drunk mesmerized soccer zombies all over the neighborhood is just more proof that the Europeanization of the East Village is complete. Now if we could just swap our Dollars for Euros, then our money would have some real value again

EXACTLY 10:39 - ALL sports are nothing more than a GAME... Just a game - nothing more. Thank you for your post. People act like it is life and death and that the outcome actually mean SOMETHING. It is A GAME - it means NOTHING. It is recreation that has just become another tool of distraction from living YOUR life in reality. WAKE UP, PEOPLE - LIVE YOUR LIVES not the lives of others. Vicarious existence = PATHETIC... 'nuff said

Really? It happens again in 4 years? I was hoping it was over forever. Never have seen such lunacy. Guess all those soccer moms did a good job convincing their children to learn the game.

The U.S. Team will be playing in the Gold Cup next summer. And you have the Rio Olympics in 2016...
