Have you tried Long Bay yet?

Long Bay opened on March 12 at 503 E. Sixth St. just east of Avenue A (the building behind Sidewalk).

We looked inside the Vietnamese restaurant right after they opened last month... the karaoke setup seems to be the centerpiece of the space... (we were treated to two songs by Air Supply). The hostess said that the owners will also, on occasion, play along on guitar.

The place was still in soft-open mode at the time of our visit ... they were cash only... and they didn't have their menus printed up yet and weren't offering delivery.

Long Bay is run by the folks who had the second iteration of Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches on East Second Street. (They closed back in February.)

As for the food, we've heard good things about their pork chop sandwiches ... and the Yelp reviewers have been mostly kind.

Here's a look at some menu items... from when the menu was taped to the front window...

Gladiators Gym was the last retail tenant here a seemingly long time ago...

Yes! Pork sandwiches are to die for and great chicken dishes, too. Hope they last!

Man, I'm out of the loop - didn't even notice that this place existed. Guess I'll have to give it a try.

Yes, it's good, and they're very friendly. Haven't been there in the evening so I haven't had the pleasure (?) of experiencing their karaoke setup yet.

Gladiators was on this block when I moved in summer 1981. I always loved passing this place even then it seemed from another era and this was long before gyms were trendy, spinning class and whatever happens in gyms today.

@EVE You probably didn't notice it because their storefront looks a bit wreckish.

I ordered a tofu sandwich to go during their first weekend in business. I was the only person there, and it took awhile for the order to come out from the kitchen. I liked the sandwich and plan to return. I just chalked up the wait to being the first weekend.

Anon 11:59, yes, their sandwiches do take awhile--they always did at Nicky's (Vicky's?), and I don't suppose that will change. I always try to call and order in advance, at least I used to at Nicky's. At least they make them fresh to order!
