Spaceman! I remember ... ah forget it. The big painting of his head on the building was cool though.

This film is ugly, but it is the REAL New York drug scene of that time. Definitely not for today's faint-hearted!!

I was always pissed they covered it over.

Back when Junkies were everywhere as were Car-fires and torched buildings...The Glory days

Can't wait. I look forward to seeing the EV as the dirty, decrepit, poor, wonderful, varied, REAL neighborhood that it used to be, instead of the bland, suburban, cookie cutter, vapid Millennial frat playground it has become. The Glory Days indeed. How I miss them.

Q: Did John live on St. Marks btw 2nd/3rd in the early 80s? Anyone? Anybody know?

I saw too much of this back in the day, it was miserable stepping over addicts to get into my apartment. There were a lot great things to remember about that time this part of it I rather forget.

@8:29 AM - Yeah I think he was shacking up on that block in '81 which was when I met him. But memory is understandably fuzzy.

There have been others, and the more recent ones are even more pathetic in my esteem, but Spacely is definitely in the archives of "Famous Junkies of LES Land" - which was what he wanted. That and drugs.

If I remember John lived on St Marks in the 80s; First Ave and 7th around 1989-90; then Ludlow St with his girlfriend until he passed away.

48 less people (almost all POC) were killed last year in the East Village than in 1991.

Just some perspective.

...magnificent real-life junkie wreck John Spacely (the self-described "Mayor of Saint Marks Place")...

really, this is a movie about a person of interest?

there are many movies that show the old lower east side and greenwich village: the buildings, the people, the street life, the stores and the stories that do not glorify the junkies and not so fascinating underbelly of the city in those days.
