No trespassing (or hunting or fishing) at the former Cafe Orlin
In recent weeks several readers have noted that some travelers/crusties have been camped out overnight at the former Cafe Orlin outdoor space on St. Mark's Place east of Second Avenue... which prompted the arrival of no trespassing signs that someone (the landlord?) posted ... these particular signs include hunting and fishing along with the no trespassing for good measure ...
News broke in early September that the restaurant was closing after service on Oct. 15.
Grub Street reported at the time that "a new restaurant will open in its place." There haven't been any updates on that just yet, including with construction permits filed at the DOB.
Cafe Orlin opened in March 1981.

Why the hell does the city let these assholes do this???
Hm. If only there was some sort of law enforcement agency, a police force if you will, tasked with protecting residents and maintaining general peace. Ah, but I am daydreaming again.
Hm, maybe if we had a mayor who actually had a pair of stones he would direct the police to clean up these bums. More cop bashing.
Riiiight, it's the cops' fault🤦🏼♂️ If only it was as simple as you suggest.
Now the cops can't do their jobs. Isn't this what everyone wanted?
Now where the heck am I supposed to go fishing??
See, cops can't do anything... Says they can't go fishing or hunting. It says nothing about shooting up
No hunting or fishing, but apparently shooting up, urinating and harassing pedestrians is ok.
It's hard to move people off the sidewalks, but the police can boot them out of here because they are on private property.
or maybe this could be a mental health and housing issue. Pleople don't choose to be miserable by free will.
This is whackamole. Its most likely the people from 13th street, which was cleared yesterday or day before.
The always compassionate comment threads of evgrieve. Where human beings are nothing more than crusties.
PS. Always FUCK THE POLICE.
Leave these people alone. They have no home. Where are they supposed to sleep?
I count exactly five people sleeping in this photo - big deal.
If you don't want them sleeping on the street then either help them find places to sleep inside or get someone to do that or STFU.

Actually, they do have a place to sleep. In New York, you have a constitutional right to shelter, which is why the city pays so much to house the homeless in shelters. Crusties don’t like to stay in shelters because they have rules; namely, no shooting up, you can’t come home at curfew high or drunk out of your mind, you might get kicked out for being abusive etc...
