Here's the scene yesterday around 5 (four hours after they ended business for the day) … where some customers had no idea that the branch was closing so soon…

And we still don't have any better idea if large parcel services will operate out of the F.D.R. Station at East 54th Street and Third Avenue.
Aside from the Cooper Station on Fourth Avenue … another option is the Tompkins Square Station on East Third Street between Avenue B and Avenue C…

Re the hours of the post office on 3rd street, be advised that the last 2 times I showed at right at the posted opening time in an effort to get in and out quick, the place was still closed and I mean the gate still down. So I went into the little coffee shop next door to ask if they knew what was up, the people there anticipated my question, told me it would probably " open soon ", so I got a cup of coffee and 15 minutes later it did in fact open up.
Close enough for government work, I suppose.

Our post office is now no longer located in our zip code. So, theoretically, if you sent a letter to the postmaster of 10009 the zip code would be 10003. Are the po boxes still 10009? Has this one address been designated 10009 while the neighbors are 10003?
Ok, I know it doesn't matter, but these are the things that keep me from getting a good night's sleep.
If the new Post Office space is so small they cannot even handle packages, then they need to call it a Postal Boutique, or a Postal Popup Store, or maybe a Postal Cubicle.

So I should ignore the missed delivery notice that I received today saying my package is at this location? Wtf?
How much you wanna bet that all of us living in the 10009 will never, ever receive a piece of mail again?

And I thought having my mail delivered couldn't get worse! I've had two packages this week that were "transferred to local post office" on Tuesday and not delivered yet...Not looking forward to figuring out how to get my stuff. Sigh.
Most important, what kind of bar/restaurant do you think will go in the post office's place?
The new post office is 10009.
Packages from 10009 that need pick up will be at the Peter Stuyvesant branch on 14th Street... Tompkins Square does not handle deliveries, or packages... it is an accounting office... I spoke with them, and this is how I have this information... Madison Square handles the deliveries if you need to track a package, or reschedule a delivery... they will find out where your package is...
