Original Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches closes in 2nd Avenue A location this year

The Original Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches outpost has closed at 216 Avenue A (the storefront on the right in the pic) between 13th Street and 14th Street.

The shutter comes nearly seven months after the quick-serve restaurant moved into the space from the SW corner of Avenue A and 13th Street. We didn't hear any reasons for the departure, or whether Nicky's might turn up in another storefront sometime soon.

Nicky's, related to the one that had been on Second Street several years earlier, opened on Avenue A in March 2019.

Thank you to the readers who mentioned this!

Unlike the original Second Street outpost, which I frequented regularly, their food really wasn't any good in either Avenue A location. Hint - pho is not supposed to taste like water.

@Anonymous 10:01AM - Perhaps you should have ordered, ummm. . . , a sandwich from a place named "Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches." Their banh mi was quite good, and the only thing I ever ordered from any of the 3 locations.

Wow I saw her working and the store was open just a couple days ago. We'll never see a 7.50 Bánh Mì ever again in this neighborhood.

Btw "closes in 2nd Avenue A location" has left me confused for a second...

@Steve - I did order sandwiches, and they were not stellar either. But the pho at the Second Street location was always delicious, so I tried it at the first of the new locations as well. Twice. Happy now?

Come on, now. If a Vietnamese place doesn’t make reliable pho, it shouldn’t be on the menu.
