Sidewalk Cafe unveils new menu items

There's a new Mediterranean/Middle Eastern menu over at Sidewalk Cafe on Avenue A and East Sixth Street… there's the return of the hummus…

… as well as items like chicken shawarma and hand-rolled couscous. You can find the new menu online here.

In honor of the new menu tonight at Sidewalk, which opened here in 1985 … there's the Menu Monday at the Open Stage starting at 7:30. Per the Facebook event page:

For this special Monday Night Open Stage we'll be promoting the new menu. Order ANYTHING off the menu and get a free beer/well/coffee/tea (happy hour drinks).

Anything? Want fries? Get a beer? Falafel? Beer. Hummus? Beer. Or whatever you want.

Gave up on Sidewalk after atrocious service on two occasions (second time we left without ordering after waiting over 30 minutes). Food had been OK the first time we were there, but took over an hour to come out when there were only 6 other people in the restaurant.

Noticed on last visit they were catering to "all you can drink" brunch crowd - so it was all 19-20 yr old bros and woos. Seems like the "free drink" offer is an appeal to the same crowd. Too bad because before "renovation" this was an area staple.

They made a big mistake when they tossed out the old menu, which was good an had something for everyone. Bring back the wasabi mashed potatoes!

Agreed, the place had a much more appealing menu pre-renovation. I knew things were different the night a table of bros and their hos were requesting the television changed to some football game. The whole hood is turning into a sportsbar.

I remember when David Lee Roth used to hang there with the motorcycle dudes. Those were the days...

I still cry over the loss of their carrot vinaigrette dressing and tuna melts. There is nothing appealing about this place since they changed over in 2012.
