Free the trees! Also, MulchFest is coming

Oh, just noting that the tree penitentiary/corral has arrived in the middle of Tompkins Square Park. Where you can deposit your tree ahead of MulchFest 2016, scheduled for TWO action-packed days: Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 9-10, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

No word if anyone will be on guard duty here.

They used the same guardrails for the Christmas Day Barbeque. It's nice that they were giving out free food to the EV denizens, but the guardrails were a bit off putting...

If I put my tree on the curb does it get thrown out like trash or will it be mulched? TSP is a trek with a tree that is 3 feet taller than me.

It gets thrown out in the trash, unfortunately.

The Department of Sanitation will have special Christmas tree collections from Monday, January 4, through Friday, January 15. Trees that are not collected after this period may be left curbside and will not receive a violation. Remaining trees will be collected as regular household waste.

Before placing your tree out for curbside collection, the Department of Sanitation requires that you remove:

Plastic bags
Lights
Ornaments
Tree stands
Tree-related accessories
Trees that still have items attached cannot be composted and will be collected as regular trash.
