Just a quick follow-up from Monday's post about the now-closed Shima being for lease on Second Avenue and East 12th Street. At the time, the listing wasn't online just yet at the Newmark Grubb Knight Frank website.
Now it is.
The rental rate is $185 a square foot … the available space is 1,650 feet. So if you do a little math… [Pausing to do a little math] Oh, just a little more than $25,400 per month.

After doing some calculations, my guess is that a bank or a chain store will be the only businesses available to afford this insane rent.

Or a BAR! The asking rent works out to about $846/day before the new tenant makes a single penny in profit from whatever businesss they're running.
Is the short-lived Picnic corner restaurant still for lease on 7th and 1st?
