So much anger in these posts. Why not take a deep breath and be in solidarity with each other, instead of the name-calling and sniping. After all, 99% of us are in the same boat.
Graffiti is what makes the neighborhood look ugly. People have to start reporting the incidents do so the police can do something about it. If We stay shut it's like it never happened. And it did happen. if the police are aware of the problem they can target the area and a dress it. People shouldn't be paying 3,500 for a 2 bedroom when we have to look at this garbage every day. It's just sad.
"If you don't like it, move back to Peoria" or Queens!
but that is not chalk... if it would wash away with a water hose or in the next rain.. that is one thing... having it steam blasted off hurts the stone..
This is for all the people who say, "..if you don't like it move back to Peoria." Guess what? I was born right here over 60 years ago and have never left. To all of you who think you are citizens of the EV....stick around more than a few years before you say anything. Eventually you might get it. You might actually look out your window one day and be able to say.. I am not a visitor anymore, this is my home now. Perhaps then you will understand that the EV is home to utopian ideas, not anarchy. There is a big difference people. If you aren't sure of the difference, there is not much we can do for you.
I agree with OMG Megan's sarcasm. Society's adulation of graffiti or "street art" is ridiculous and too subjective. Why is this any better/worse/different than dog crap left on the sidewalk or the next celebrated "street artist" that strikes it rich in the art world? It's all destructive and often comes at someone's personal expense/property, if not all of ours as taxpayers and forced viewers.
For those that celebrate it, I hope somebody throws a bucket of paint on your grandma's new sweater as she's wearing it down the street, because it's basically the same thing.
graffiti as a painting or design is beautiul. not this!!! we live in this neighborhood. for god sake take pride in your neighborhood. the only reason they do it is because we allow it. what they are doing is "writing up" damaging our properties in a selfish act so they can identify them selves or "tags" .the reason nothing is done on this is due to the lack of responsibilty on our parts. the police will do something if we file complaints but if we dont they wont even think anything is wrong. this is not graffiti its vandalisim.

You like that stuff? I think this crappy scribbling is an insult to the people who have to walk by it each day...
East Village be Carcosa now. Welcome to Carcosa; now take of your masks.
King of Spades?
If you don't like it, move back to Peoria. (Aw c'mon, you know SOMEONE was going to say it, figured I'd be first.)
Homework assignment. The difference between d's and b's. Now go print them. Oh. You have no paper/pencils at home? Use what you have.
A Game Of Thrones "hommage" perhaps?
It's the work by a Graffiti tagger who goes by as ESPY - He also hit all over Soho last night
Joey Blau, I should have googled Carcosa before commenting.
Neo-Yuppie douchebag
Whoever did this is a jerk, and should be required to clean 10 city blocks of such "art".

The Yellow King is more creative than that.
First time I've liked graffiti, since I've been an adult.
THOSE are not 'd''s.
Someone is using 'mark of the devil' imagery as in "666"
I walk the darkness of the city,
Chalk in hand,
I found the perfect canvas.
I hope the world takes pity,
Upon my lack of creativity.

The ESPY guy has been all over the 10th Street bridge over to the East River bike path for months. Wish I knew what the face means though.
