4/20 at Ben & Jerry's on St. Mark's Place

The franchise here between Second Avenue and Third Avenue that opened in January is getting into the spirit of its first 4/20 Day...

There's an additional sign on the front window here at 24 St. Mark's Place showing their solidarity for the National Student Walkout planned on April 20, the anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting...

H/T @claireeboston!

We love Ben & Jerrys. When they closed up their store on Third Avenue years ago it left us without any real ice cream stores in the neighborhood. All we have are fancy high-fallooting (I doubt I spelled that correctly) gourmet ice cream stores selling weird concoctions in even weirder configurations.

Can't wait to just walk in and order a plain old vanilla ice cream sugar cone with some chocolate sprinkles on top. Worth every penny. Then again I am a purist.

5:48, what you really need then is Carvel ;-)

Go to Key Foods and read the ingredients on Ban & Jerrys. Reads like it comes from a chemistry lab. Then read the ingredients on a box of Turkey Hill.... Nothing from a chemistry lab.
B&J? No thanks.

PJ....yesssss.....it would be great to have a Carvel around the neighborhood. Sometimes you can go home again.

and Anonymous....ingredients wise you are probably correct, but let's face the reality that everything in the world we eat has been tainted, contaminated, altered or poisoned by what we have done to the environment. Dirty air though which the rain falls becoming dirty, hitting the soil, which becomes dirty, to grow the crops, which are dirty, to harvest for your "freshest organic food around" favorite store/restaurant, for our culinary pleasures. Still, you are right. Regardless, I am going to be there, on line, waiting for my sinfully delicious treat.

Actually Ben & Jerry's vanilla ingredients looks pretty good, until you get to carrageenan, which is controversial:
CREAM, SKIM MILK, LIQUID SUGAR (SUGAR, WATER), WATER, EGG YOLKS, SUGAR, GUAR GUM, VANILLA EXTRACT, VANILLA BEANS, CARRAGEENAN.

Anonymous at 8:11 AM, Have you tried Blue Bunny? I know it's a stupid name, but I bought it at Fine Fare once, because it was on sale, and it was really good. It's my new favorite.
