Sunday's opening shot

For anyone keeping track, the Blondie mural on Bleecker at the Bowery has been restored ... this after being tagged last month... after being restored back in December.

Shepard Fairy's mural has been here since August 2017.

Most public murals seem to be more about the muralist but this is really well done and appropriate - the right level of noise and information and the color scheme is still visually grabbing without being an eye sore. Strummer and Jackson were visitors, Blondie built something here. Scratched it out of the rubble of the times...when there was room to do so- debt masters will never allow that kind of room now .

It would have been well done and appropriate if the mural actually represented the diversity of the music scene at that time- ands like Television, Suicide, Mink de Ville, Cramps, Contortions, Ramones, Dead Boys, B-52s, Patti Smith, and many more. The Blondie mural is the lightweight, corporate, sanitized Pop version that is far removed from the dirty, druggy, chaotic, lowlife mess that was CBGBs calling card.

Maybe it's time to remove it and do the Talking Heads?! Joey Ramone was there for a bit. Blondie has been up for much longer. Mix it up!

no comment on the subject matter, but the style is rather blandly corporate looking. maybe give another artist a crack at it next time.
